The Diaspora African Forum(DAF), Embassy of the Diaspora received an award at the conclusion of the 13th African Union HighLevel Dialogue on Democracy, Governance, and Human Rights, held in Accra, Ghana. This prestigious event, themed “Justice, Rights, Reparations and State Building,” brought together past and present African leaders, traditional authorities, members of the security services, diplomats, students, civil society actors, and other stakeholders to discuss strengthening democratic governance and addressing historical injustices across the continent.
Ambassador Dr. Erieka Bennett, representing the 6th Region, served on a panel discussion that explored critical issues affecting Africa and its diaspora.
The award bestowed upon the Diaspora African Forum recognizes DAF’s tireless efforts in promoting African cooperation between the continent and its diaspora.
The 13th African Union High-Level Dialogue provided a platform for discussions on pressing issues affecting Africa’s development, including migration, economic growth, and social progress. The event brought together prominent figures from across the continent and beyond, including government officials, thought leaders, and representatives of international organizations.
The event concluded with a call to action for African leaders to work collectively to enhance democracy on the continent through the principles of truth, equity, and an uncompromised justice system. The dialogue also endorsed the operationalization of the Permanent African Union Mechanism on Reparatory Justice, with a dedicated Committee of Experts tasked with advancing the reparations agenda at the continental level.
